An Ei Katu is a treasured Cook Islands taoga, made and worn at important events such as weddings, birthdays, haircutting and as an everyday accessory.
Designs and sizes vary to fit around your head to ensure everything stays in place and together. The flowers and design of an Ei Katu is dependent on your choice and can be made with fresh flowers or artificial flowers. The weaving of material can be incorporated as ‘connecting with our ancestors’ as mothers, fathers, grandparents, and families make these for their families.
Working alongside our community partners, each workshop helps families create a taoga that is significant for family members. Importantly, making an Ei Katu, offers an opportunity to talanoa about the wellbeing of family such as the importance of support and being part of a greater village.
